Final Lead Teacher Workshop

After 3 years on the ICT Contract I feel I have learnt a lot. The first year involved lots of Professional Development for our whole staff, and trialling lots of new Web 2.0 tools which were great to experiment with my class.

The second year was spent consolidating new skills and learning how to integrate ICT into all subjects at school. This year has been different with changes in Lead Teachers.

I thoroughly enjoyed going to Learning@Schools in Rotorua, but found it difficult to put in place what I had learnt due to so much other stuff happening this year. Being able to integrate ICT effetively into my classroom programme is an ongoing process. It is a huge job and is timeconsuming to set up for your class. Teachers need to be passionate about the intergration of ICT or it won't happen.

I think I need a lot more time to be able to set up a class where ICT tools run themselves and the ownership is on the students, not on the teacher. For this to happen a lot of ground work needs to happen at the beginning of the year and the way my classroom is run currently would change. Need more time!!!

Well, as I thought when I signed up to blogger, I have been very slack with making postings. Today is my second lead teachers day, and this is only my second posting.

After last term's Lead Teacher Day I was full of ideas to try in my classroom. I did create a wordle with my class - they did love it and have enjoyed creating their own.

The Cluster Expo in the holidays also gave me heaps of ideas to try out at school - to find the time to do it all with my students is the hardest thing.

Glogster is another Web 2.0 tool that I have introduced to my class. I have had two reading groups create Glogster posters to share facts about the books they have read. The children found this very easy to use, and have just figured out how to put these onto our class blog.

After debating whether or not to let my students create Knowledge home pages, I decided to show my class how to do it. There is not a great deal of purpose to these pages, but the kids absolutely loved creating them. They have learnt a lot of ICT skills from this, so I now think they were worthwhile.

A useful part of today was the sharing at the beginning, it is always good to see what is happening in other schools. Again, lots of new ideas to try out with my class. Just need to find time to implement them.

Oh, if only we had more hours in the day, life would be so much easier!!

Eastnet Cluster Meeting 10 June

Today I attended my first ICT lead teacher's meeting. I found the sharing of resources and ideas at the beginning very useful.
I am keen to have a go at creating a wordle with my class. It looks like an easy Web 2.o tool to begin with.

It was also great to have a chance to sit and search for useful websites that can be used with a class. I now have lots of ideas to share at team meetings - especially for websites of the week.
